Cloud4Wi allows administrators to enforce email verification for end-users registering on the Splash Page. This feature ensures data quality, reduces fake profiles, and guarantees that user-provided email addresses are active and valid.
Enabling Email Verification
To configure this workflow, navigate to Guest Wi-Fi > Setup > Login Profiles and open your active profile. In the Access Control section, locate the Primary Sign-Up Validation setting and set it to Email.
Supported Sign-Up Options: This validation method applies when using the User Account or Click-through registration options.
External Identity Provider (IdP) Exception: End-users who authenticate via an external IdP (e.g., Social Logins) bypass this workflow automatically, as their email addresses are already pre-verified by the respective third-party provider.
The End-User Workflow
Data Input: During sign-up, the end-user inputs their email address.
Review & Correction: Upon submission, the Splash Page displays a summary screen. The user can review their email address and modify it immediately if they notice any typos.
Verification Link Trigger: Once the user proceeds, Cloud4Wi automatically dispatches a verification link to the submitted email address.
Validation: Clicking the link updates the account status to Verified, unlocking full internet privileges according to the assigned policy rules.
The 5-Minute Validation Grace Period
To ensure users can actually access their inbox—especially if they lack alternative cellular data coverage—Cloud4Wi grants unverified accounts a temporary 5-minute grace period of internet access.
The system governs this temporary state through the following operational logic:
Intentional Disconnection Loop: If the end-user does not click the verification link within 5 minutes, the system will forcibly terminate their current browsing session. This cyclic disconnection is an intentional design behavior to encourage the user to complete the verification process for a seamless user experience.
Reconnection Capabilities: After being disconnected, the user is permitted to log back in immediately for another temporary 5-minute window, provided their assigned Time Policy has remaining time available. This loop continues until the account is verified or the overall Time Policy expires.
Interaction with Time Policies:
If the assigned Time Policy allows for more than 5 minutes of total browsing, the 5-minute session cap is enforced strictly.
If the assigned Time Policy naturally permits less than 5 minutes of total access, no validation-related restrictions are applied since the policy expires before the grace period ends.
If the account lacks an associated Time Policy, the end-user will not be able to connect to the internet at all, even for the grace period.
Persistent Reminders: As long as an account remains unverified, every new connection attempt triggers a warning alert on the Splash Page and prompts the system to resend the verification email. If Click-through access is enabled, the portal will continuously prompt the user to re-verify their email address at every login attempt until the process is completed.
Manual Verification by Administrators
If an end-user cannot access their mailbox or complete the verification autonomously, an Organization Manager or Location Manager can manually validate the account from the backend.
To perform a manual validation, log into the Cloud4Wi Dashboard, navigate to the Users management section, and search for the specific guest account. Open the user's profile details and click the Confirm link located next to the Confirm registration email field. If this link is missing, it indicates the account is already verified or does not require validation.
